Three Canada players Super Falcons should keep an eye on, including two Chelsea stars
Published: July 20, 2023The Super Falcons will be playing against Canada at the ongoing FIFA Women's World Cup on Friday morning.
The tournament which kicked off on Thursday is being co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
Canada have been grouped alongside Nigeria, the Republic of Ireland and tournament co-host Australia.
With a host of good players in the Canadian team, the Super Falcons have to ensure that all hands are on deck ahead of tomorrow's match.
Below are three players the record African champions must be wary of ahead of their encounter with the CONCACAF country.
1. Jessie Fleming (Chelsea)
The Chelsea midfielder won Canada Player of the Year for the second time in a row in 2022, while also helping Chelsea FC win the FA Women's Super League and the FA Cup.
The 25-year-old midfielder was also instrumental in Canada's qualification for the World Cup as she scored 3 goals to finish as joint top scorer in the CONCACAF Women's Championship and was named in the tournament's All-Star team.
2. Julia Grosso (Juventus)
She finished as joint top scorer with Fleming in the CONCACAF Women's championship and her influence with Fleming in the middle of the park will have to be curtailed for Randy Waldrum's side to stand a chance of getting a result in the encounter
3. Ashley Lawrence (Chelsea)
The fullback recently moved to Women Super League's champions Chelsea from French side Paris Saint Germain.
The 28-year-old is a veteran of the national team and has been capped 117 times since making her debut in 2013.
